I made a new bumper sticker!

Designed it myself, to sell..

Ordered 100 of them at first.

This is a BIG hint about my new venture!

Now I need to go make lists of the 6 million things I need to have done by THURSDAY… THE BIG DAY…

What do YOU brake for?

All things cherry

Previously I mentioned I’m about to do something huge.. a new direction in my life.. that involves cherries.  Once the ink is dry on the contract, I’ll post details.

In the meantime, I thought I’d give links to some of my favorite cherry-themed items on Etsy.

A vintage tablecloth,

A camera strap,

An ipod or cellphone case ,

A cupcake bath bomb with a cherry on top,

A Cherry Blossom Silver Ring

A Cherry key fob

If you’d like to see what I have listed on Etsy that are cherry-themed, here they are.

sandals on the dock, cherry blossom, and cherry on a plate.

Do you have any cherry themed items to share?  If so, post a comment!

Blueberries in the Cherry Capital

After my street sale excursion yesterday, I drove up to Buchan’s Blueberry Hill to pick blueberries.

The farm is almost at the tip of the Old Mission Peninsula.  I drove the scenic Peninsula Drive to get there.  Sheer torture, I tell you!

I can’t believe I’ve lived here for 16 years and never knew about this place.  I would love to have brought my kids here.  Some of the blueberries were the size of grapes, and you could sit down in front of a bush and pick dozens in one spot!  In fact, that’s exactly what I did..

Two hours later, dripping with sweat (sorry for that visual), with 12 pounds of blueberries in my buckets, I was ready to call it quits.  I think I photographed everything BUT the blueberries in the buckets.  Oh yeah, and my body dripping with sweat.  Lucky you.

Here are some pretty pictures I took at their farm to get those awful images out of your head.

When I got home I put most of the berries directly into the freezer.  Minus the pound or so I ate in the car on the way home.

They freeze so nicely and are great to snack on.. frozen or fresh.

This is the place where I post a scrumptious recipe that I will use with the blueberries.  Unfortunately, I don’t cook, bake, or can.  Good thing I wasn’t born a pilgrim.

Today is my absolute favorite day in Traverse City.

I like today better than the National Cherry Festival, better than the Traverse City Film Festival, and better than any perfect blue sky 75 degree summer day.

For today, the first Friday in August, is the downtown STREET SALE!!!

Now those of you who live in a big city might think this is rather puny, but our downtown is vibrant and alive.  The closest major city is 2.5 hours away.  In fact, we are THE largest city in Northern Michigan.

Anyway, I arrived at 7am, in time to meet my friends for a quick latte, then I did some serious shopping.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures yet of what I bought!

Stay tuned..

I am ready to embark on a new adventure!  There is a retail store in my town that I’ve been just DYING to purchase and manage.  No details yet, until the signatures are dry on the contract I don’t want to give too many details.  I have a handshake agreement with the owner, so it looks like its really happening!  My first meeting with the lawyer is today.

Most of my friends know what I’m doing, but I’ll give you a hint:

In the meantime, I’m destashing in a big way.  Organizing my home life will help my brain stay uncluttered for all of the decisions I have to make in the next month.

More to come!

Yesterday was the final day of the National Cherry Festival, and after working at the Benjamin Twiggs booth, I headed over to the Midway to take some fun carnival pictures.

I kind of felt like a freak, taking pictures at a carnival filled with kids, so I tried my best professional photographer act.

Its been about 10 years since I’ve been there as a mom, and looking at it like a photographer was a new experience.  Sorry, but carnies are creepy!

In our small town its a big deal to have the Midway for a week.

The colors of the carnival fit perfectly in my house, so when I saw these swings I went crazy with my camera..

Then I spotted these.. their eyes seemed to follow my every move, so I called it a day.

The National Cherry Festival started yesterday in my little town, Traverse City.  We usually get over 250,000 visitors to the area in one week.  Not bad in a town of 70,000!

This year I am working for my friend Kathy, the owner of a Cherry Store called Benjamin Twiggs.  Along with running a brick and morter full time, she is also responsible for her little space at the festival.

Here’s a visual:

This will be a week of long, tiring days!  My feet hurt already!
